New post at Deconstructing Moya!

Lava’s a Many Splendored Thing

An Important Announcement

Kevin here.

This Thanksgiving, I realize I have a lot to be thankful for. Wonderful friends. A lovely fiancée. Mass Effect 2 (You are a horrible, meddlesome girl, Tessa, and I love you so). I could make a list, but the absolute top would be Made of Fail.

This show was a turning point in my life. It was the moment when two friends decided to have some fun, and it snowballed into all of this. Made of Fail Productions, now about to add two – maybe three or four – radio dramas to its already impressive lineup of three podcasts, a crapload of blogs, and more friendships than I can do service to.

It is because of all of this that I am where I am today, at the heart and soul of this crazy steamrolling ball of insanity that I love so much. I have been taking more and more charge of the Production company as a whole, which is what this is turning out to be, and as such, there needs to be a bit of a change.

I would like to take this moment to announce that, as of January, I am stepping aside as host of our flagship podcast, Made of Fail, and handing the reins over to Dayna. In my opinion, she has – more than me – helped shape this one little show into what it is today, and I have full faith in her ability to take the lead and run it in whatever direction she chooses. She may have some formatting changes, or she might keep things exactly as they are, but the decision is now hers and hers alone.

Does this mean I am leaving? No. I will remain the Owner and Lead Producer of Made of Fail Productions. I will still seek out and start up new projects, take submissions from outside sources, and figure out what the hell this is all shaping up to be. I’m also not leaving our flagship podcast completely, either; I will be coming on as a guest-host now, on whatever episodes Dayna wishes me to take part in, or whichever episodes have the topics I want to discuss. I’m still writing for Deconstructing Moya, and I’m never going away.

This is not a decision I make lightly – it has been in the works for a few months, and it has been on my mind for over half a year now. The whole thing has just gotten so big, and it warms my heart that we’re so important to all of you. It is because of this that I wish to do you all the justice of continuing to have the shows, features, blogs, and other fun projects that you love so much. There will be more of the same, and more of the new, and much much more of Noel than we ever wanted to see in the first place.

Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Holidays, and Happy Failcraft Adventuring to all of you.

May we stay on the air forever.

[Red Pen Reads] A Game of Thrones – Jon

New post on Second Time Around!

A Game of Thrones – Jon

Fourteen-year-old Jon Snow is drinking wine, as one does when one lives in a mediaeval fantasy world. Lest I mislead anyone into thinking that Jon is in need of an intervention and a twelve-step program, it should be said that this is happening during a feast. Jon is secretly gloating over the fact that his brothers and sisters — sitting with the adults at the hosts and royalty table — would only be allowed one glass, whereas he, being seated on the benches in the crowd, can keep on drinking while the young squires surrounding him do the mediaeval fantasy version of the “chug chug” chant. Ok, so maybe a small intervention.

Meet the Failcrew – Cleolinda Jones

This week brings us a very special person to us all – after all, she’s the source of most our following. Cleolinda Jones steps up to the plate!

What is your role in Made of Fail Productions?

Generally I’m on guest retainer for Twilight (Senior Sparkle Correspondent, as it were) and Harry Potter episodes of Made of Fail, although I’ve been on for at least two other subjects, I think, and served as Not Dayna a couple of times. I really would like to branch out THE HUNGER GAMES and talk about other LORD OF THE RINGS subjects BATMAN, though.

A Game of Thrones – Eddard

You know, I had completely forgotten that Ned Stark is a point-of-view character. It’s details like this that justify my choosing to start the series from scratch rather than jump in where I left off. On the other hand, this means there’s yet another segment standing between me and the delightfully twisted mind of Tyrion Lannister. The Lannister Crazy will be my reward for making it through the Stark Emo.

[Deconstructing Moya] Episode 4.03 – “What Was Lost Part II: Resurrection”

New post at Deconstructing Moya!

What Was Lost Part II: Resurrection

Crichton survives his cliff jump and he and the others go on to wrestle a gillman, witness the funeral of Scorpius, beat Grayza at her own bondage game, kamikaze a Leviathan, and bring a new age of healing and hope to an entire planet. Oh, and Crichton finally gets Winona back.

[Red Pen Reads] A Game of Thrones – Daenerys

New post on Second Time Around!

A Game of Thrones – Daenerys

The chapter opens with Viserys being creepy, which is Viserys’s default setting. Brothers should never say the word “caress” to their sisters, in any context. Eurgh. Talking about the fabric bringing out the colour in Dany’s (Daenerys is a pretty name, but I’m lazy) eyes is not helping! There are a lot of sexual undertones to the way Viserys treats Dany, but we are talking about Targaryens, a House whose words might as well have been “Incest: a game the whole family can play.” Here’s a creepy question no one wanted to contemplate: if the rebellion had never happened, would Dany and Viserys be forced to marry even though Viserys was not the heir to the throne? Now, Targaryens do not have a monopoly on incest in A Song of Ice and Fire, but in their case, it’s institutional incest. There must have been some sort of laws and traditions governing it, right?

No, brain bleach will not be provided with these recaps.

Meet the Failcrew – Devin Baker

Greetings, fellow internet denizens! I’m Devin Baker, editor of the Made of Fail podcast. You might know me from fandoms such as DC Comics, Square-Enix (particularly Kingdom Hearts), and my lovely fiancée.

What is your role in Made of Fail Productions?

I take the ball of words that is the raw take of Made of Fail and shape it into something that sounds like a podcast—segments, interludes, intros, etc. It’s a fairly easy task; the hosts are good at moderating the discussion and keeping it lively, though I do have to cut the occasional flub or tangent that goes too far afield.

If you haven’t read our Podcasting Guide and you’re interested in editing, scroll to the top of the screen and click the button for some great advice. It’s how I learned.

[Mailbag Mondays] It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjnmxwEHS2s]

Mailbag Mondays is a weekly feature of Made of Fail Productions. Send in your questions, comments, and thoughts to made_of_fail@yahoo.com! Kevin will be your host this week.

Given the first-time nature of this column, we don’t have that many pieces of mail to respond to this week. So instead, watch my sister totally rock her high school V-Show. (She’s seventeen.)

Rowan Bristol asks:
The last time I was on your show, Dayna touched me and now I have a rash somewhere uncomfortable. What should I do?
Is it true that Adam is made of delicious entrails?
How many ghost peppers does it take to kill Kevin?
