SPOILER WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT
Harold, they’re lesbians!
Kara and Lena have the messiest breakup possible, rife with misunderstandings and moments where Lena demonstrates that she’s not evil evil, just hurt and with the power to hurt others. Fortunately she’s caught before she can use Myriad to spread her mind control program, with Hope-as-Eve taking the fall and leaving Lena free to try again.
Meanwhile, Malefic gets his own redemption. After being mind-altered as part of Lena’s plan to make the world better, he approaches the DEO to help stop Lena’s plan. There, he makes up with J’onn and the two forge a path forward. At episode’s end, Malefic returns to Mars to help M’gann with the White Martian rebellion, wanting to end the war he started. It’s both an unfortunate example of the effectiveness of Lena’s mind control plans, but also a demonstration of how the worst of people can heal and find a way towards redemption.
Of course, it’s all a setup by the Monitor, who has been playing the long game to groom J’onn for a place in the upcoming Crisis. Lex Luthor also makes a return as the Monitor gives his recruitment pitch, but it looks as though Lex might be playing the Monitor against himself with a request involving Lena. It’s all excellent bait to kick off Crisis on Infinite Earths, starting next week!
