[Review] The Flash (2014) Episode 4×21: “Harry and the Harrisons”

Welcome back to Flashcaps, where we review previous seasons of the CW’s The Flash.

This week, I’m left wondering if the Thinker’s already enacted his plan or if Team Flash just decided to shotgun a 16-oz. can of stupid.

Spoilers under the cut.

The Plot: Unable to find the Thinker himself, the team focuses on trying to stop him from enacting the Enlightenment. Caitlin suggests getting Amunet Black to help, because everyone is suggesting bad ideas this week. Amunet agrees in exchange for Team Flash helping her get her stash of metal that was stolen. Meanwhile, Cisco tries to help Harry by getting the Council of Wells to reverse the dumbing process. When that doesn’t work, Cisco forms the Council of Harrisons–rejects from the Council of Wells who are more interested in group therapy than helping Harry. Iris writes the story of the Thinker and his plan, but Barry is unsure if she should publish it.

The Good: This is one of those episodes where the bad drags down the good, and there really isn’t a lot of good here. Amunet Black is back, but is dragged down by some truly cringey dialogue. Harry is becoming more emotionally mature, but we have to go through the Council of Harrisons to get there. I think the only person who isn’t dragged down by any of this is Joe.

The Bad: Everything else. The group trusting Amunet Black to freely walk around S.T.A.R. Labs sticks out. Letting Tom Cavanaugh do increasingly horrifying cultural stereotypes is another. Also, the way Team Flash figures out that Marlize left Clifford…words fail me.

Okay, this might be the worst episode of the season. There are worse moments in the other bad ones, sure, but at least they had bright points to illuminate the way. This episode had so little good about it, and the bad overwhelmed everything in it. Can we just get to the finale already?
